The Inner Sanctum

Simplify your life

Ever notice how much we "clutter our lives"?  My grandmother had a saying: 'Much wants more' to describe our insatiable need to continually want more that we legitimately need.  That hunger is never really satisfied.  That externalized process is reflecting an internal drive and need that cannot be fulfilled by the materialistic trappings of this world.  In fact, rather than contribute to a happier, healthier, and more satisfying life, we often find that the result of an extravagant lifestyle is a deeper sense of emptiness that reinforces our negative self-evaluation.

Inner simplicity means becoming more self aware and turning to the best of what life has to offer such as family, friends, and nature.  Peace, clarity, and serenity are gifts we receive from the quiet contemplation within the natural world, as well as experiences of the imminent or transcendent nature of the world.  It allows us to escape from the noisy distractions of the external world and get in touch with our inner world, latching onto creativity, the synchronicity of our life and our inner wisdom/healer self.  It is here in this sanctuary that we connect to a power larger than ourselves to create an appropriate balance between our inner and outer lives.  Establishing inner simplicity in your life can provide unlimited potential for personal and spiritual growth and increase your energy, motivation and sense of purpose in life.

Taking up the challenge to simplify your life starts with thinking about how to reduce the complexities of your life and how this will contribute to your inner growth.  This means taking stock of how much we create a "wasteland" of energy, time, and resources and rearranging our agenda to create quality time, spent doing the things that are more rewarding, an investment into our self-worth and well-being.  It means meeting life's challenges, conquering fears, and letting go of the negative aspect of life -- the traumas and hurts that block our potential for happiness and peace.  It is building a strong sense of self efficacy and resilience to enable us to cope well with whatever difficulties we encounter.

Psychological hardiness and emotional maturity develop from endurance and perseverance.  Did you ever try to clean a house that was so full of things, knick-knacks everywhere, every shelf cluttered, and every cupboard bursting?  To maintain a sense of organization, cleanliness and functionality in such an environment would be a time consuming and frustrating venture.  At some point you give up.  There is never enough time, energy or motivation to accomplish the task.  Your mind and life can become cluttered in the same way.  De-clutter your life by creating an inner simplicity that will help you feel the peace and stability that you need to enjoy a divine gift... your life!
